Sid Dickens Description

Alchemy, Elements in Metal

Collector Notes

The Alchemy, Elements in Metal were made in either composite (1998-1999) or plaster (1999-2000).

We have used a (C) to identify the composite version for our database. This style number is not the official Alchemy style number from Sid Dickens. Both versions of this block were produced & sold under B01.

The Composite Alchemy can be identified by its grey composite back & sides. We have posted a photo for your reference.

The Composite Alchmey is considered rarer, than the later plaster version, by most collectors.

RUMOR:
Many had believed that this series was called the M Series. This rumor was proved wrong on June 8, 2009 by Sid, inc.

FACT: June 8, 2009
During the developmental stage of Alchemy, the design consisted of a 1/4 inch metal facing. They were made separate (like a ceramic wall tile) or attached to a composite back. The style originally designed for this block, was M Series.

On May 28, 1998, Sid held an opening at the studio to introduce these new tiles. Immediately following the event, he decided to drop the M Series style name and the 1/4 inch version. Sid never shipped nor sold any blocks to the public under M Series. The only blocks sold to the public, consisted of the combo (metal facing & composite back).

Following sales were not added to our database:

3-11-2010 - Somebody listed this block without doing research on the value. It was a BIN auction and sold within seconds for $90. Due to the unusual nature of the sale, we are only listing it in collector notes.
